WASHINGTON, DC – June 8, 2022 – AAR President and CEO Ian Jefferies released the following statement ahead of the observance of International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) on Thursday, June 9th.

“North American freight railroads understand the need to reduce and ultimately eliminate incidents at grade crossings, particularly because so many of these tragedies are preventable. ILCAD is an important part of increasing awareness around grade crossing safety, which AAR and its members proudly support. We are excited for new programs to advance progress, including a grade crossing separation program included in the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill, as well as record funding for the successful Section 130 program that upgrades technology and signaling at crossings.”
