In a recent U.S. News & World Report op-ed, Steve Forbes sheds light on how regulation will hurt railroads.
“From being a basket case, our railroads transformed themselves into models of efficiency, ever-improving service and impressive producers of profits. When it comes to carrying freight, no other country in the world matches American railroads in the quality of infrastructure and the application of high tech tools. They are the marvel of the world. Real freight prices, for instance, are about half of what they were before deregulation. Competition works,” Forbes notes.
“That’s why it’s essential that the Senate does not block President Trump’s nominees to this board…The nation needs an STB that does not hinder a capital-intensive sector from making money needed to spend on maintenance, new and better road beds and better service.”
