In a piece from Clackamas Review, Fire Captain Michael Carlsen shares his support and advocacy for the app AskRail, which helps keep first responders and local communities safe.

“AskRail, a mobile app developed by the Association of American Railroads and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, helps emergency personnel more efficiently and safely respond to rail incidents in the rare cases they occur,” Carlsen says.

“Through enhanced GPS technology, AskRail can precisely map a half-mile area surrounding a rail accident site, pointing out critical locations such as schools or vulnerable natural resources such as rivers and streams.”

Safety is a never-ending priority for railroads and technology innovations like the AskRail app help make the 140,000-mile network safer each day.
