In a recent Emergency Management op-ed, Charles Werner, Charlottesville Fire Chief Emeritus and member of the AAR Public Safety Rail Advisory Committee, discusses how the AskRail mobile app puts the power of freight rail information in the hands of first responders. Werner has a unique point of view on the app; he worked with Railinc, a technology subsidiary of AAR, to develop the app in 2014.
“I have this full view of information that really helps me make better decisions right now,” Werner says. “Having the exact information on what’s on the cars and what’s next to it. It’s all based on facts and is available immediately rather me trying to find a telephone number and make a call to find out what’s on a train.”
Today, more than 21,000 first responders in 50 states and eight Canadian provinces have access to the invitation-only app.
