Whirlpool Corporation built a 1.6 million–square–foot regional distribution center in Columbus, Ohio, packed full of washers, dryers and ovens. That is equivalent to 36 football fields full of home appliances. The company chose to build in Columbus because of its strong workforce and access to freight rail. In fact, freight rail is so important to Whirlpool that it will not build a new distribution center unless it has access to freight rail. Delivering Whirlpool appliances is just one more way freight rail helps keep America’s commerce moving.
