Membership Information & Benefits

AAR offers membership in two basic levels:

AAR Full Membership is available to any U.S. Class I railroad. With the approval of the AAR Board, non-class I U.S. railroads — including passenger railroads and switching and terminal companies — may be admitted as Full Members, as well.

Associate Memberships to AAR are available to companies interested in North America's freight rail system.

Benefits

AAR Full Membership is available to any U.S. Class I railroad. With the approval of the AAR Board, non-class I U.S. railroads --including passenger railroads and switching and terminal companies -- may be admitted as Full Members, as well. Full membership offers the broadest array of AAR member benefits, including legislative and legal matters, safety, operations, research, and communications. Benefits include all those provided to Associate Members, as well as additional information provided through AAR committees. Full member assessments are set on a sliding scale based on the member's gross freight service revenues (or passenger revenues, in the case of passenger railroads). Full member railroads with gross freight revenues exceeding certain thresholds are eligible for a seat on AAR's Board of Directors. For more information on Full membership, contact Kelly Donley at kdonley@aar.org.

Non-U.S. railroads may join as Special Members of AAR, the privileges and obligations determined under individual agreement with AAR. For more information on Special Memberships, contact Kelly Donley at kdonley@aar.org.
