Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Department serves as the eyes and ears of the railroad industry on Capitol Hill. Railroads are very much affected by transportation policy decisions made by the federal government. In cooperation with the individual railroads, the AAR works very closely with members of Congress and their staffs, the Executive Branch and independent agencies to ensure that those policies are equitable for the railroad community.
The Government Affairs Department also cooperates with representatives of other transportation modes and railroad customers on issues of mutual interest. Working together like this helps build a good future for railroads, other transportation modes and the businesses we serve.
